Description

Costa Toscana IGT

"The Tuscan archipelago is an earthly paradise of which Gorgona is the wildest and most luminescent pearl of Aphrodite. Behind its apparent surliness, the unspeakable seduction of perfumes and silences, and a nature that moves for its strength, for the its eternal puberty.... And around, water and salt, to reflect the messages of the sky, to tighten the laces to the sails." (A.Bocelli - 2014)

The Gorgona project was born in August 2012 thanks to the collaboration between Frescobaldi and Gorgona, the only penitentiary island in Europe. Here the inmates spend the last period of their sentence, working in contact with nature to develop professional skills that facilitate reintegration into the working and social reality. The project begins around a small vineyard, in the heart of an amphitheater overlooking the sea, the aim of which is to allow prisoners to gain concrete and active experience in the field of viticulture, with the collaboration and supervision of agronomists and Frescobaldi winemakers. Gorgona Rosso sees the light with the 2015 harvest, from some rows of Sangiovese and Vermentino Nero, grown organically and then refined in terracotta jars. The Gorgona Rosso label is dedicated to hope and the desire for rehabilitation: with the hope that the important viticulture experiences acquired by prisoners can help them write a new page upon their return to society.

Climatic trend

The 2019 season was characterized by a winter with rainfall below seasonal averages. This rainfall intensified during the spring period, especially during the month of May, which was cool and mild at the same time. The months of June, July and August were hot with isolated rain showers well placed to avoid risks of water stress for the vines. The grapes ripened perfectly and arrived healthy at harvest time. September stood out for a beautiful day-night temperature range, ideal for slow and optimal maturation.

Organoleptic notes: Gorgona Rosso 2019 still makes us infatuate, with its wonderful, vital and elegant personality. His charisma captures the senses and hits the mark, fascinating like never before; he dazzles with color, bright and alive.

The fruity note is distinctive with hints reminiscent of ripe red fruits such as strawberry tree when sweet, Mediterranean scrub such as myrtle, juniper and finally rosemary.

Notes of softness and freshness emerge on the palate, with hints that are never excessive but always perfectly integrated. The tannin is present but velvety.
