ORNELLAIA EXTENDS BETWEEN BOLGHERI AND THE COAST: HISTORY, SEA AND POETRY.

Once part of the lands of Ornellaia were covered by the waters of the Mediterranean which left behind sandy substrates, marl and of course marine fossils. Clays emerge, dotted with heterometric calcareous pebbles.
THE SOILS CHANG SIGNIFICANTLY AS THE ROWS RIDE UP TO THE HILLS TO SEE THE SEA

The soils of Ornellaia are of marine, alluvial and volcanic origin. Over time, man has highlighted their vocation with ever greater accuracy. The vineyards are thus divided into small parcels: each one is a micro-cosm, with its own identity and language. All around, the Mediterranean maquis reigns freely.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the protagonist vines of the estate, followed by Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and, for the white berried grapes, by Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Viognier, Verdicchio and Vermentino.
