Description

Mater Matuta is a red wine produced with 85% Syrah and 15% Petit Verdot grapes. The grapes are harvested in an excellent state of ripeness, sometimes even slightly dried for Syrah.

The vinification involves the use of different techniques for the two varieties of grapes: the Syrah ferments with indigenous yeasts using the submerged cap technique for approximately 18-20 days, while the Petit Verdot is vinified through the use of punchers which allow the maximum extraction of tannins and polyphenolic substances. After racking, the wines are placed separately in new barriques for 22-24 months and subsequently refined in the bottle for another 10-12 months.

Mater Matuta has a dark and very dense ruby color, with an intense and complex bouquet that opens with balsamic hints, dark coffee beans, violet and ripe morello cherry. Strong spicy notes of coriander, nutmeg and cinnamon also emerge. On the palate it presents a perfect tannic texture, a well-integrated freshness and a fruity and persistent finish.

Mater Matuta goes perfectly with 100% buffalo milk provola. It is ideal for a special occasion or for an important gift. The name "Mater Matuta" derives from the ancient Italic divinity, goddess of the dawn, protector of nascent life and fertility, and is dedicated to the cult of the goddess Satricum. Lazio

Casale del Giglio

Casale del Giglio was founded in 1967 by Dr. Berardino Santarelli, originally from Amatrice, and is located in the Agro Pontino in the locality of Le Ferriere, Municipality of Aprilia, in the province of Latina, about 50 km south of Rome.

This territory represented, compared to other areas of Lazio and other regions of Italy, an environment to be explored from the point of view of wine.
For this reason, the “Casale del Giglio” research and development project was launched in 1985, authorized by the Agriculture Department of the Lazio Region.
