Production philosophy: rigor, dedication, trust, and creativity
Cantina Tramin was founded in 1898 by Christian Schrott, the parish priest of Termeno, with the goal of securing a future for mountain winegrowers. In 1971, it merged with the Cantina Sociale di Egna, established in 1893.
Today, the cooperative brings together 160 member families across approximately 270 hectares of vineyards, producing an average of 1.9 million bottles per year, with 70% destined for the Italian market and 30% for export. Since the 1990s, winemaker Willi Stürz has led the winery toward an increasingly precise idea of quality, culminating in the Selezione project: Epokale, Nussbaumer, Troy, Terminum, Unterebner, Stoan, Maglén, Urban, and Loam.
Each bottle is the result of a shared effort among one hundred sixty families who believe in the same dream: to tell, with rigor and creativity, the soul of Termeno.
Awards and Reputation
In 2018, Epokale was the first Italian white wine to achieve 100/100 Parker Points. Stoan reached 97 points from Decanter and 94 from Robert Parker Wine Advocate, Nussbaumer earned the Three Gold Stars from Veronelli for three consecutive vintages, and Maglén and Urban scored 94-95 points from James Suckling. These recognitions confirm a consistent quality built over more than a century of cooperative history.
A recognizable style
In 2010, the winery completed its new headquarters, designed by architect Werner Tscholl: a green steel sculpture-structure that has become an icon and symbol of Termeno. An architecture that reflects the same philosophy as the wines: technical precision, respect for the land, and enhancement of native grape varieties, starting with Gewürztraminer, the emblem of this region.
An experience that goes beyond wine
Cantina Tramin is not just about production: it’s also about hospitality. The shop and tasting room, open all year round, allow you to discover up close the vineyards surrounding Termeno and the work of the 160 families who cultivate them. Visiting the winery means immersing yourself in the most authentic South Tyrol, amid harvest, mountains, and the birthplace of Gewürztraminer.
Tramin Winery today
Today Cantina Tramin is one of the most respected cooperatives in South Tyrol: 160 families, over a century of shared history, and an architecture that has become a symbol of the town, united by the same commitment to quality.
For those seeking wines that combine territorial identity, oenological precision, and international recognition, Cantina Tramin remains an absolute benchmark among the aromatic whites and reds of South Tyrol.
The vineyards: from Gewürztraminer to the great red wines of South Tyrol
The heart of production revolves around the great protagonists of South Tyrolean winemaking:
- Gewürztraminer, the grape variety that carries the name of Termeno worldwide, cultivated on the western slopes at medium altitude where it develops its most distinctive aromatic profile.
- Pinot Noir, in the historic vineyards of Mazon and Glen, on the eastern side: here it finds one of its most elegant expressions in Italy.
- Lagrein, the native grape variety of the Ora area, interpreted in intense and structured versions.
- Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Pinot Blanc, protagonists of the great white cuvées like Stoan.
Each label tells a different fragment of Termeno: the wind, the Dolomites, the lake, the limestone rock.
